Biocompatibility Study of a Cu-Al-Ni Rod Obtained by Continuous Casting

Cu-Al-Nishape memory alloys (SMAs) are widely known for their better properties in comparison to other SMAs (lower production costs, increased ductility, enhanced machinability, reduced liquidus temperature, and decreased hysteresis), but there is still controversy terms of the biological these materials. The aim this study was evaluate biofunctional performances Cu-Al-Ni alloy produced by continuous casting. micro-chemical analysis investigated SEM/EDX. Immersion tests performed seven days were used estimate quantity Cu, Al, Ni ions released neutral pH slightly acidic artificial saliva. To assess biocompatibility samples, MTT assay on fibroblasts dental pulp cells indirect direct contact with samples after 1,3, 7 days.The revealed that casting enables primary fabrication rods a shape effect. Samples immersed saliva 6.5 value showed no significant amounts ions, despite high concentration copper alloy. However, environment, suppression Cu 0.14 µg/cm2, Al 1.9 0.73 as expected, it confirmed not corrosion resistant an environment. In conclusion, concerns related only materials content environments. Oppositely, small doses promote cell proliferation, which might be useful further attempts enrich different biomedical copper.
